A frequent criticism of social media such as Facebook, and the Web at large for that matter, is that they are echo chambers. Unlike in real life, the argument goes, people online don't have to interact with people they disagree with, so their views and outlooks on life get more polarized online. (Gridlocked government? It's all Facebook's fault!) In fact, there's even a whole book about it--Eli Pariser's The Filter Bubble: What the Internet Is Hiding From You.
